Jaime J. Wing

Jaime J. Wing
Associate

Experience
Jaime Wing’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation and investigations. He frequently represents health insurers in multi-million-dollar disputes with providers on a range of issues, including improper billing, fraud, kickbacks, and ERISA-based claims. Additionally, he has assisted clients with sensitive internal inquiries concerning allegations under the False Claims Act and state whistleblower laws. Mr. Wing has also devoted considerable time to catastrophic loss litigation involving devastating personal injuries and property damage on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. He has experience with drafting pleadings, fact and expert discovery, depositions, as well as dispositive and non-dispositive motions, including requests for provisional remedies.
Mr. Wing maintains an active pro bono practice focused on expungement of stale criminal convictions and immigrants’ rights. As a law student, Mr. Wing externed for the Honorable Joan N. Ericksen of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota and clerked in the felony drug and property crime divisions of the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. Prior to that, he served in the United States Army for five years.
Represented Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri and other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in litigation against defendants who conspired to defraud the healthcare insurers through utilization of a laboratory pass-through billing scheme. The defendants and their co-conspirators took control of a Critical Access Hospital in Unionville, MO called Putnam County Memorial Hospital, and used the hospital to bill our clients $18 million for lab tests performed by their laboratory in Colorado. By billing the tests through the hospital, they obtained substantially inflated reimbursements. Robins Kaplan secured a jury verdict for compensatory and punitive damages totaling $25.6 million.
Obtained several seven- and eight-figure confidential settlements for health insurers in a dispute with independent laboratories, billing companies, and marketers involving a nationwide pass-through scheme.
Represented a 32-year-old man with third-degree burns over 70% of his body caused by a combustible dust fire and explosion, which led to numerous settlements totaling $15.4 million.
Secured favorable resolution, including a cash payment, of a health insurer’s dispute with a national ancillary provider that engaged in a deceptive scheme of illegal remuneration to induce vulnerable patients’ acquisition of lucrative commercial health coverage.
Obtained favorable pre-litigation settlements for a Fortune 500 manufacturer in connection with several matters concerning the False Claims Act’s anti-retaliation provision, the Minnesota Whistleblower Act, and state employment law claims.
Obtained a favorable confidential settlement for a health insurer in its dispute with a major metropolitan provider system.
