Stephen Wald has focused his practice on complex litigation typically involving business relationships, commercial disputes, intellectual property, telecommunications, and land use. He has tried cases in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts, represented clients in arbitrations, and appeared in contested proceedings before agencies that regulate telecommunications, land use, environmental protection, and employment discrimination.
Obtained a defense judgment for one of the world’s largest conference calling companies after federal court trial in which Qwest Communications Corp. sought to hold client liable for more than $2 million for terminating access and other charges. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)
Served as Special Assistant Attorney General to represent the Massachusetts Trial Court, its Chief Justice, and the Commissioner of Probation in senior employee disciplinary proceedings and federal court litigation that arose from the investigation that led to the criminal conviction of the previous Commissioner of Probation. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)
Trial counsel for Victorinox AG, the maker of the Swiss Army Knife, which resulted in a recovery during trial of iconic rights to worldwide intellectual property. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)
Represented 20 competitors in software licensing cases against Paychex and related parties; obtained $38 million recovery after a jury verdict in one trial, a $6,200,000 jury verdict in a second trial, specific performance award in a third, and successful resolutions by settlement of all of the remaining cases. Jury verdict of $1,250,000 for gender discrimination and punitive damages for the first woman chemical engineer to supervise a production line at her Fortune 500 employer. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)
Jury verdict of more than a million dollars against a national bank for aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty in connection with a Boston historic redevelopment project. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)
