October 2013
MINNEAPOLIS, October 2013 – Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. is pleased to announce that Jeffrey S. Gleason has joined the firm’s Minneapolis office as a Principal in the firm’s Business Litigation Group.
Mr. Gleason most recently served as a trial attorney in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Civil Division, Civil Fraud Section. For four years he led multi-agency civil fraud investigations involving potential violations of the False Claims Act (FCA) and Anti-Kickback Statute, and made recommendations about whether to settle or sue corporations and individuals. The investigations included allegations of fraud involving pharmaceuticals, medical devices, skilled nursing facilities, unnecessary medical services, illegal kickbacks, and solar energy cash grants. Mr. Gleason also managed all related litigation including mediation, and he was responsible for negotiating settlements totaling more than $100 million. He handled one of the largest False Claims Act settlements with an individual in U.S. history: U.S. ex rel. Freedman v. SuarezHoyos et al., a $26.1 million settlement to resolve allegations of a physician's receipt of illegal kickbacks and performance of medically unnecessary dermatology procedures.
Prior to his DOJ service, Mr. Gleason was a litigation associate with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, on cases involving intellectual property litigation, employment litigation, and complex commercial litigation. He also handled pro bono litigation for clients detained in a U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Mr. Gleason was a visiting lecturer at Tufts University and was a teacher at the St. Alban’s School in Washington, D.C. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard College.
