Settlement Announced in Fiat Chrysler Multidistrict Litigation
May 21, 2019
Attorneys representing class members in the multidistrict litigation In re Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep EcoDiesel® Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litigation recently announced that a settlement has been approved by Judge Edward Chen of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
If all class members participate, the settlement will result in approximately $307.5 million in compensation, plus extended warranty benefits worth an additional $239.5 million. Class members are also entitled to an emissions repair, as well as an extended warranty covering all the parts and systems affected by the emissions repair. Additionally, defendants will pay approximately $300 million in civil penalties.
The vast litigation, which was consolidated into a single complaint in May 2017, alleged that 2014, 2015, and 2016 model-year Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, which were advertised as being environmentally friendly, were outfitted with devices that masked their actual emissions levels. The case alleged that Fiat installed engine software in approximately 100,000 trucks that allowed them to produce nitrogen oxide at levels that exceed government emissions standards.
As a member of the court-appointed Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee, Stacey Slaughter oversaw the Robins Kaplan litigation team, which included Michael Pacelli, J. Austin Hurt, and Lisa Beane.
Class members can learn more about the settlement and file a claim here.
