Robins Kaplan LLP Announces Leadership Program Co-chairs

July 17, 2019

Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that Matthew Woods and Teresa Fariss McClain have been appointed co-chairs of the firm’s Exceptional Advocate Training Program (EATP). The nationally recognized training curriculum is designed to develop the next generation of world-class trial attorneys by providing vigorous advocacy training conducted by our most experienced partners.

“Everything we do is centered around one key concept – when we teach, we learn,” says Woods, who also serves as chair of the firm’s Professional Development Committee. “The goal of EATP is to provide our associates with the skills necessary to develop and hone that edge of what it means to be a trial lawyer.” McClain adds: “This program allows us to help integrate attorneys into all stages of the training process and develop a true team and collegial working environment.”

The program is divided into three phases: Phase I gives junior associates the opportunity to conduct mock depositions, oral arguments, and negotiations and to receive immediate feedback from sitting judges and partners that enhances their structured approaches and deliveries. In Phase II, mid-level associates develop courtroom skills that enable them to effectively try cases in front of judges and juries.  Phase III provides senior associates with the opportunity to work with experts, conduct adverse examinations, and calculate damages. These complex trials are conducted in front of juries, judges, and partners and round out the complete trial experience for associates.
